CATCH_VR Project
About
The European Commission Project titled “CApacity building in
TeaCHing of AR/VR (CATCH_VR)” aims at bringing together eight different HEIs from Bulgaria, Ireland, Romania, and Pakistan to focus on a particular set of AR/VR based Digital Twin (DT) related practices. Our ambition is born out of the conviction that we can better serve our students, faculty members, practitioners, and other stakeholders by working together to scale up and promote digital education in pursuit to address the major societal challenges identified in the 17 SDGs.
This project focuses on enhancing the capacity of higher education, particularly in Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), through a collaboration of educational institutions based in Europe and Asia. Graduate Engineering Education is the chosen field, with emphasis on the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Digital Twining, incorporating AR/VR within the fundamental framework of system engineering, serves as a means to engage stakeholders (students) across the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.
The project encompasses comprehensive curriculum development, teaching strategies, evaluation methods, continuous quality improvement (CQI) procedures, and human resource training. Several universities from Bulgaria, Ireland, Romania, and Pakistan are involved in this collaborative effort, with Electrical Engineering as the selected subject classification. Nonetheless, the methodologies outlined are not restricted to any specific sector and can be applied universally.
Project Objectives
The main objectives of this project are as follows:
- Developing curriculum for Digital Twin Graduate Degree Program for Pakistani partner universities.
- Increasing number of Digital Twin technology graduates to increase the pool of trainers in Digital Twin Technology.
- Trending undergraduate and graduate education in Industry 4.0 pillar in Pakistan and relatively advanced nations in Europe.
- To stop the brain-drain phenomenon from Pakistan by creating a viable Industry 4.0 application market in both academia and Industry
- To train the masses in high-value technology through Digital Twin and enable them to earn decent jobs and respectable living locally and in overseas economies. Expatriate workers are a major source of foreign exchange build-up in Pakistan. This affects GDP and brings socioeconomic benefits to the community.
Expected Outcomes
We anticipate several outcomes from the CATCH_VR project such as:
- Developed potential in individual regarding the teaching and learning about Augmented and Virtual reality
- Produce engineering graduate with capability to apply cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.
- Grip on the curriculum development, continuous quality improvement procedures and human resource training.
- Create an overall environment where students and teachers can develop their skillset in the field of virtual reality.
- Promote education of digital twin, AR and VR
